Subsurface 2024 USGS

The U.S. Geological Survey Mineral Resources Program and its Mineral Resources Data System compile deposits, prospects, and commodity summaries for gold, copper, iron, lithium, and other minerals. The Mineral Commodity Summaries are the annual public ledger of production and reserves.

How to read it

Each point is a known deposit or mining district in the Mineral Resources Data System. A reserve is the economic quantity. A resource is the geologic quantity. Gold often occurs with other metals. Artisanal workings are often absent from the compiled layer.

Caveats

Completeness varies by country and by how much a government publishes. A blank area is a place with no recorded deposit in this survey. The layer records locations and commodities.
