What it is

The Choiseul pigeon (Microgoura meeki) was a ground living pigeon with a flat, fan like blue crest. It is known only from the six birds and one egg collected in 1904. The International Union for Conservation of Nature lists it as Extinct.

Local people remembered it as a tasty bird that roosted near the ground. Cats brought to the island hunted it, since it had never met a meat eating mammal before.
